In Saline County, warnings about burning and dumping trash now at the top of mind as well. The county has an illegal dumping control officer. This effective trash cop has a message for those dumping or burning trash: Knock it off, because if he doesn't find you, your neighbors might use a new hotline to tip him off. Officer Shane Knight patrols 100 miles a day across Saline County. He's on a beat looking for trash illegally dumped solid waste. "I'll search these materials and try to find the appropriate evidence necessary to enforce." And when he finds a fresh mess, he knows what to look for.
This illegal dumping along a county mine road yields a lead that soon has Knight knocking on a door.
A person would have two days to get the mess cleaned up and show Knight receipts from the landfill. "Get a solid waste hauler. In Saline County we have 23 haulers that care of both residential and commercial solid waste."
Haulers like Donnie Toland want to make you a deal. "I talk trash, haul trash, turn trash into cash." "It not only takes money from us, it takes money from our taxes. Somebody's got to go back there and clean that stuff up, and it's gonna cost the taxpayers to clean it up."
